The Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko conducted a working meeting with the President of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) Brian Porteus. During the meeting the parties discussed the issues of organisation of the World Ski Orienteering Championships in 2017 in the city of Krasnoyarsk.

In a short ibterview B. Porteus informed: "I am thankful to Vitaly Mutko for the support provided by Russia to the development of orienteering both in their motherland and in the world. The final of the Ski Orienteering World Cup held in Tyumen last year has become the best one in this discipline's history".

"Orienteering is a mass sport. It doesn't demand for large investments, - the IOF President noticed. -  Agenda 2020 accepted by the International Olympic Committee opens certain perspectives for us, and we are going to struggle for them.  Support by Russia and other leading sporting countries is very important for us in this work. We stake on ski orienteering. So, the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk will become an excellent opportunity for us to  demonstrate ourselves. And the 2017 World Championships in Krasnoyarsk will be a test tournament before it.

The Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov, Secretary General of the International Orienteering Federation Tom Hollowell, the President of the Russian Orienteering Federation Sergey Belyaev and other officials took part in the meeting.
