Today, the Chairman of the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Viktor Tomenko held the first meeting of the working group on preparation for the 22nd World Ski Orienteering Championship. It is composed of the heads of sports organizations, ministers of the region, representatives of the Siberian Federal University, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), administration of Krasnoyarsk, as well as the Federal Migration Service of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The Prime Minister of the Krasnoyarsk Territory reminded that this international sports event will be held in Krasnoyarsk on March 5-13, 2017. Viktor Tomenko highlighted: "Since the preparation procedure will involve a great number of entities and agencies, it is important for us to coordinate their actions. The World Championship will be held two years before the Universiade. Therefore, we definitely see it as an opportunity to check our readiness to hold these sports competitions, taken into account that the ski orienteering was included in the programme of our Winter University Games."

Vice-President of the All-Russian Sports Public Organization "Russian Orienteering Federation" Alexander Bliznevsky noted that when choosing the venue for the competition, the experts took into account the high level of development of this sport both in Russia and in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, availability of modern sports facilities and the required specialists, as well as a variety of landscape zones and types of terrain. According to Mr. Bliznevsky, “Krasnoyarsk has already hosted such competitions: in 1997, it hosted the World Cup Final, and in 2000 – the World Championship, which was highly appreciated by the international experts”.

The working group members discussed and approved the plan of preparation and holding of the 22nd World Orienteering Championship in the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, which includes the issues of security, transportation service, accommodation of athletes and team officials, preparation of sports facilities, as well as other issues to be necessarily addressed in preparation for the games.
